Famed Ice Rink Opens for its 19th Season on Thursday, November 10th

LOS ANGELES (October 13, 2016) –The iconic Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square presented by Bai, kicks off its winter 2016 season on November 10, 2016 and runs through January 16, 2017. Presenting a magical winter wonderland in the heart of historic Downtown Los Angeles, this season’s unique roster of free community and special events includes the Ice Breaker: Opening Celebration, the popular DJ Spotlight Series, Polar Bear Skate, Learn to Curl and its first-ever Silent Night Skate Party.

Framed by towering skyscrapers and stunning historical landmarks, the dynamic recreational hub has played an important part in Downtown’s transformation. Celebrating its 19th season, the 7,200 square-foot rink is made of real ice and offers skaters the same professional-quality ice skating surface as major productions including the Winter Olympics. Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square presented by Bai is a must-visit destination, welcoming hundreds of thousands of skaters and spectators annually to join in healthy holiday recreation.

Presented by Bai and with Eventbrite as the official ticketing partner, the City’s largest outdoor rink is open everyday, including holidays, and is the perfect urban gathering place for tourists and locals alike. A portion of proceeds will benefit the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation & Parks. Media partners include Metro, Metrolink, 100.3 The Sound and LA Weekly.

FREE SPECIAL EVENTS THIS SEASON:

Ice Breaker: Opening Celebration, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11am

Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square presented by Bai kicks off its 19th season with an official “Ice Breaking” Ceremony where an ice sculpture is smashed to christen the season. The unique event will include spectacular skating performances by California Gold Synchronized Skating Team. Youth from San Pedro Elementary will be the first guests of the season to skate.

 DJ Spotlights: Thursdays evenings, November 17; December 1, 8, 15, 22, 2016 & January 5, 12, 2017 from 7:00-9:30pm
Get your skating groove on with DJ HowLy, whose style is reminiscent of an old school turntablist blended with cutting-edge new school vibes. Kicking off on November 17th, the popular series continues on Thursdays throughout the season. The famed DJ master has shared the stage with artists including Bruno Mars, Far East Movement, Lil Jon and Willow Smith.

Learn to Curl: Sunday mornings, November 13, December 11 and January 8 from 8:30-9:30am

You’ve watched curling on TV during the Winter Olympics, but have you ever thought to try it? Hollywood Curling Club, LA County’s only organization dedicated to the sport, will offer a curling pop-up at the Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square presented by Bai. You can drop in for a few minutes to learn the basics or stick around for the full hour to get more in-depth instruction. Just wear comfortable (and warm) clothing and flat-soled shoes. Admission is free. Advance sign-up required.

Silent Night Skate Party: Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 7-8pm and 8:30-9:30pm

Join us for our first-ever Silent Night Skate Party, where you can dance the night away with three different channels of music to choose from! Costumes are encouraged and skaters of all ages are welcome.

 Polar Bear Skate: The Los Angeles Edition: January 1, 2017 from 2:30-3:30pm
Holiday Ice Rink® Pershing Square presented by Bai is putting its own spin on Canada’s “Polar Bear Plunge” with the LA Edition—Polar Bear Skate. Grab your sunglasses and swimsuit to “dive in,” for the City’s most exciting New Year’s Day Pershing Square tradition. Skaters of all ages are invited to dress in beach attire and skate to the beat of DJ HowLy’s tunes for an invigorating welcome to 2017. Prizes awarded for theme, originality and overall appearance. Spectators pick the winner!
